Please Help Toast a Legend
The Beer World lost a living legend when Don Younger, owner of the Horse Brass Pub and creator of Oregon Beer Month passed away on Jan 31. Don’s love of a good pint and a great pub inspired thousands to create the diverse beer culture we enjoy today in this country. His was the first pub to feature craft beer in Portland, Oregon if you can imagine such a time. For this Second Annual Beer Toast, the theme was again to be “Its 5 o’clock Somewhere”. Don came up with the idea of the first toast last year in 2010 to help me win a contest. He also convinced me to bronze our well-traveled yet worn out mascot (a rubber chicken) to extend its traveling life. The annual toast was a way to celebrate the insanity of it all. He coined the name Dead Chicken Society for the places The Chicken had been and the Horse Brass became DCS Chapter One that day. No matter where you are, your favorite Brewery, Pub, Tap House, Restaurant, or Tasting Room, raise a pint to toast someone who lived life to its fullest and helped make the Beer World the fantastic place it is today.
